Blog #4:Kirsten Johnson

Response to Kirsten Johnson's Presentation

The first thing that makes me feel impressed with Kirsten Johnson is her body movements when she was giving the presentation. She moves around in the whole auditorium, talks to different students and interacts with them, which keeps me have my full attention towards her. Sometimes she asks questions to some students and has some short interviews with them. During these interviews, she keeps thinking questions that can make them feel comfortable to talks with her in a close distance, and at the same time, she asks questions to other students (the audience) based on what she got from these short interviews. She said that she is “interested in perception,” and I can feel it throughout her presentation because she continually interacting with people and trying to know their opinions and thoughts, which is another thing that makes me feel impressed.
The second thing that makes me feel impressed with Kirsten Johnson is her positive energy in her career and in her personality. Even from the way she dresses, the passion for wear colorful and full of pattern clothes is showing her energy toward the world and the things around her. She said that documentary is a way to “share the idea to the world,” and people should “take the moment to say something.” She wants people to be comfortable speaking about the things that matter to them. Personally, I think the look into each other’s eyes practice brings mankind and humanity. In contemporary life, people are not often making eye contact with others and they are more often looking at their phones. Even technology is making things become convenient, but we are losing the pure humanity. I believe documentary is a way to feel the humanity in our mind and body.
